Video Game New Releases – Week of May 2nd

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

Modern Warfare 2 – Stimulus Package is coming to the PC this week and that should excite the online PC gamers, they always get the short end of the stick when it comes to release dates. Poor PC gamers.

Iron Man 2 releases on all major platforms this week. Licensed games are generally mediocre at best but we will see if Iron Man 2 improves on the first Iron Man game.

Several Wii, DS and a PSP titles round out the releases this week. Most of these titles are family or children’s games although I am sure there is excitement among the Fat Princess series fans that a version will now be available on the PSP.

Dante’s Inferno Review

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

Overall Score: 8.0
Graphics: B+
Controls: B+
Entertainment: A
Replayability: B-
Story: B-

Platform(s): 360/PS3
Release Date: 02/09/10
Genre: Action
Local: 1 player
Online: 1 player
ESRB: (M) Mature
Publisher: Visceral Games
Developer: Electronic Arts

Summary:

Dante’s Inferno is a good action game that is a great choice when you are a looking for a title that allows you to pummel
enemies on your way to victory. It is very similar to God of War and executed the story and action well enough to belong in the same category. There are enough variety and challenges to keep the game interesting throughout the campaign.

The camera is not controlled by the user, which is often a problem and there were a few minor graphical glitches (this review was on the Xbox 360 version).

Pros:

- Fun “God of War” style action that is well executed and makes you feel like a bad-ass.

- Character development is fun and interesting, creating a slightly different gameplay experience for each player.

- There are a variety of combat abilities, boss battles, and puzzles that are fun and challenging.

Cons:

- Lack of ability to control game camera can be frustrating at times.

- Suffers from minor graphical glitches.

Full Review:

Dante’s Inferno is another action game that is modeled after the God of War games. Visceral does a good job of making a high quality game that utilizes the best features of its inspiration and does add a few extra elements that make the game unique. (more…)

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Review

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Overall Score: 9.5
Graphics: A+
Controls: A-
Entertainment: A+
Replayability: B
Story: A

Platform(s): PS3
Release Date: 10/13/09
Genre: Action/Third-Person Shooter
Local: Single Player
Online: 1-2 Co-op/1-10 Multiplayer
ESRB: T(Teen)
Publisher: Sony
Developer: Naughty Dog

Summary:

Uncharted 2 grabs your attention in the first few seconds and never lets go. This is a beautiful game; from the breathtaking and varied scenery to the realistic character models. The graphics and cutscenes are both gorgeous and the gameplay is exciting, intuitive, and rarely feels repetitive. Uncharted 2 is an amazing third-person shooter experience and my favorite PS3 game so far.

Pros:

- Beautiful!

- Fantastic voice-acting, engaging story

- Exciting shooter gameplay

Cons:

- Climbing can feel repetitive in spots

- Why not let me control the camera?

Full Review:

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is one of the most cinematic game experiences I have ever played. Naughty Dog, the developer, does such an amazing job blending the action with the cinematics throughout the 6-8 hour campaign that sometimes it takes me a few seconds to realize I’m no longer in control of Nathan Drake, the main character in the game.
